We’re having a problem with ETL between our ERP and MES systems. We use a timestamp-based periodic export. It occasionally skips a record. We have determined this is due to the duration a transaction is open. If an export occurs when a transaction is being recorded, the timestamp will not be selected by query so the record is ignored. Then during the next export, the timestamp is out of range so the record is ignored.
The easy solution would seem to be to calculate and write the timestamp as the last step of the transaction. However, even if the timestamp is recorded at the end of the transaction, a computer’s / framework clock is only accurate to within a certain number of milliseconds. Clock jitter can introduce exactly the same problem albeit on a smaller scale.
